The Prices: While most prices were reasonable, a couple of my staple items were more expensive than I’m willing to pay. I imagine the number of shoppers will taper off as the store becomes a staple in the community, but the outing was far from my normal zen grocery shopping experience. The Crowd: Although a behemoth of a facility, the store was packed. I didn’t mind parking at Macy’s, figuring that this was just a product of opening weekend, but the shuttle service Giant Eagle provides from car to store leads me to believe otherwise. Parking: When I returned to the store around 6:00 p.m. Unique Foods: The wine section boasts 2,700 choices, the cheese shop features an incredible selection and the produce section offers hard-to-find items like cactus leaves. Special Services: The health and wellness area offers an onsite aesthetician and dietitian to answer questions and offer input (though neither were there on Sunday evening) and features an OSU Med Center FastCare Clinic. A juice bar and seating area, including plenty of room in a cozy space upstairs, make for a great place to grab a quick bite. The Layout: The restaurant area is impressive, with visually-appealing stations and many takeout options. I grabbed the few items I needed and decided to come back to try my weekly shopping! What’s Neat As I walked past the creperie, I could smell fresh donuts and the “Oh So Sweet Shop” immediately caught my eye with gelato, nuts and chocolates. I avoided the star-studded grand opening promotions and dropped by early Saturday morning in search of coffee and bagels. When I heard about the Giant Eagle Market District replacing the old Giant Eagle I didn’t like, I decided to give them another chance. Since then, I’ve been driving a few extra miles to go to my favorite Kroger. I gave it a try, but found it cramped and overpriced. When my husband and I moved to Upper Arlington a few years ago, the nearest grocery store was Giant Eagle. Planning a menu (which I don’t always stick to) and slowly working my way up and down every aisle is a weekly ritual for me.įor as long as I can remember, I have been a Kroger shopper.
